You might have played with an electric toy car when you were small, but fancy building an actual electric car yourself? How about building an environmental-friendly one with sensors? Sounds too hard? Well, this was made possible by a group of primary school students!
Navigating through the exhibition foyer at the first International Computational Thinking Education Conference organized by the CoolThink@JC Initiative, students from Rainbow Baptist Primary School were excited to show off their Ecomobiles which they enhanced with programming skills to enable sensors to detect suspended particles in the air and sends data to your cell phone.
The conference provided a platform for worldwide sharing of ideas as well as dissemination of findings and outcomes on the implementation of computational thinking development. Recognised scholars and educators in the field delivered keynote speeches while academics from 13 overseas countries and regions gave presentations on the research outcomes of computational thinking education in their jurisdictions. Local primary school teachers and students also hosted exhibition booths and demonstration sessions to showcase innovative solutions in STEM (Science, Technology, Engineering and Mathematics) and coding education.
